Physical Fitness

Why Should We Exercise?

One of the most crucial and beneficial ways to improve your health and well-being is exercise. Studies have shown that exercise provides a myriad of benefits to your mental and physical health, ranging from improving mood, boosting energy, fighting diseases, losing weight, and much, much more. So how can you reap the benefits of exercise? Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to go to the gym every day or run every day. Just doing short yet intensive exercises can help improve your focus by increasing blood flow through the body. For example, after studying for an hour or playing videogames for an hour, you can do simple exercises -such as push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups- that take less than five minutes to complete. By frequently doing these simple and short exercises, you will have the focus and energy to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Additionally, physical exercise is an very important element of achieving a healthy composition essential for learning as much as possible as a student preparing to go to college. Physical exercise is not only important for learning, but also completing daily actions. In the face of the pandemic, many of us have reduced our physical activity significantly. Even if we are not participating in a competitive sport, it is a good idea to constantly continue physical exercise.

  • It is recommend that all students get a minimum of 1-1.5 hours of exercise every day. However it is also important not to over exercise. I have been doing this already.

  • Methods of exercise can differ, as long as it is not too extreme. Ex: having a short jog every morning, riding indoor bikes, jogging on treadmills etc.

Theoretical Exercise Schedule

Early Morning-  After getting up and getting ready, take a 20-30 minute jog outside in your neighborhood.

Morning/Afternoon- Use an exercise machine, (such as a indoor bicycle, treadmill, or the Mirror machine, etc.)  and exercise for at least 1 hour. An alternative to this is to play an outdoor sport (such as tennis, football, tag, etc.) for at least 1 hour. If you do not thing you are able to exercise for that long, you can alternatively spread out that 1 hour into two 30 minute sessions.

Treadmill -

Evening- Before going to bed, mix and match at least 4 reps* of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats.

* a rep, or reps are a "set" of exercises, ex: today I will do 2 reps of twenty push-ups before I go to bed. However, you can choose how many exercises each rep contains depending how taxing each exercise is. For example, if you feel that sit-ups are easier for you to complete, you can change one rep of sit-ups to 40 sit-ups.

Mental Fitness

Mental wellness and a healthy mindset is just as important as keeping yourself physically healthy. Especially in the newer generation, depression is a rising issue in many students and teens. It is always important to stay positive in every situation.

REMEMBER Mental health is a serious issue and if you or anyone else you know is experiencing mental health problems, make sure to get help.

These issues happen to all of us. It’s highly recommended to take a break from your usual activities, or whatever is causing these issues. Do something that makes you happy, to get your mind off of all the stress or pressure.

When you know a friend that is having some trouble, talk to them. Sometimes we just need somebody to talk with to de-stress.

When the mental health of ourselves and members of our community is healthy, we can keep moving higher to accomplish new things and face challenges with a positive outlook.
